Education System

The Institute is fully backed and supported by the Jaypee Group of Companies who recognize the role of IT and emerging technologies in improving the quality of life of the people in India. JIIT strives to play a leading role in the development of technical manpower and research programs comparable to the best in India and the world.

The academic year consists of basically Two Semesters (Engg Programs) and Three Trimesters for MBA Program. The education system is organized around credit system which ensures continuous evaluation of student’s performance and provides flexibility to choose courses of interest and to progress at an optimum pace suited to student’s ability or convenience. Each course is assigned certain number of credits depending upon the class contact hours. A specified number of credits and CGPA are to be completed satisfactorily in order to qualify for a degree. The medium of Instructions is English.

The Programs of study emphasize strong conceptual understanding and practical skills in their respective areas of specialization. All students are provided with a sound foundation in basic sciences, coupled with courses in the Humanities and Social Sciences in addition to courses of parent discipline.

The education system lays great emphasis on continuous evaluation and transparency by means of well designed tutorials and practicals. Every effort is made to reinforce the concepts taught in the classroom and further enhancement of the learning is made possible by a unique educational concept called Project-Oriented Practice (POP) which consists of a minor project given to students from 2nd to 6th semesters. In the final year, a major project is assigned to students.

Industry internship after the 6th Semester is an integral part of the academic Program leading to overall development of the student through exposure to practical skills in real life situations.

UG Program in Electronics & Communication Engineering

The career growth and opportunities for ECE graduates may cover a wide range, but the bedrock for their success and deep understanding of engineering principles, built on mathematical and computational concepts, laboratory exercises and project work.

Keeping this in mind, the department gives core subjects that introduce electronics and communication engineering and then systematically build up solid foundations and depth in selected areas like VLSI, RF Engineering, Digital Systems and Communication Engineering. Also Laboratory work and independent projects strengthen their ability of analysis, design, and experimentation in a variety of desired areas. Flexibility in selecting the interdepartmental electives caters to their interest and broadens their knowledge to meet the demands of academia and industry.

Students get a flavor of working in industry and the work culture prevailing there through the mandatory six-week industrial training at the end of third year. A strong emphasis on the final year project makes the students confident in research, design, development, manufacturing and management.

UG Program in Computer Science Engineering

The institutions with the passage of their evolution and growth have succeeded in creating their place of excellence in the country and abroad. The institutes have been attracting bright students from all parts of the country for quality education in Computer Science and Information Technology at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. During the course of time it has offered opportunities to its inmates in the area of quality education and research in pursuance of a long cherished mission of the Group.

Most of the courses are supported by good laboratory practice through excellent computer laboratories and software. There is a provision of six elective subjects which a student can choose depending on market demand and his/her interest in emerging areas and need for further specialization. Though most of the courses have elements of research and design, a heavy emphasis on the final year project gives students an excellent opportunity to develop and demonstrate their innovation skills, design skills and research interests. These projects quite often lead to publications of their original work. Some of the core subjects of the programs include Object Oriented Programming, Micro Processors & Controllers, Algorithms, Operating Systems, Software Engineering, Computation Theory, Computer Networks, Compiler Design, Computer Organization and Architecture. Students have to undergo a thorough six-week mandatory industrial training at the end of their third year of study to get a feel of the work culture in relevant industries.

UG Program in Information Technology

JIIT, Noida offers a unique four-year undergraduate Program leading to the degree of Bachelor of Technology, IT. The program aims to prepare students to either pursue a professional career immediately after graduation or to continue with postgraduate studies either in India or abroad. The B.Tech. Program also enhances freedom of choice by offering a large number and variety of elective courses. Since technological courses are introduced from the very first semester, the student has the necessary background to specialize and delve deeper into specific sub-areas of knowledge within IT in the later part of the Program. Elective courses constitute the bulk of the curriculum in the fourth year of study. During the fourth (final) year of study, the student is required to undertake a full-length project. A special feature of the Program consists of an internship of four to eight weeks at the end of the sixth semester of study, which will provide an opportunity for the student to apply and practice academic concepts in real world situations. The structure of the Program is under continuous review to enable it to keep pace with developments in technology, industry, and educational methodology.

UG Program in Biotechnology

The undergraduate B. Tech in Biotechnology 4-Yr program offers:

Specialized electives responding to rapidly changing technology and advances in Life sciences industry such as Clinical Trials and Database Management, Stem cells and Healthcare, Enzymes in Food Processing, Intellectual Property Rights & Bioethics, Pharmecogenomics, Machine Learning Tools in Bioinformatics prepare students for successful professional careers.

Integrated MTech Programs

Besides completing all requirements of the B.Tech program in the chosen branch, students have to take most of the courses of the respective Masters Program in the last one year. The Dual Degree Programs entitle the students to get both the Bachelors as well as the Masters Degree.

5 Year Integrated M. Tech (Bio Technology)

The 5-year Dual degree program leads to the simultaneous award of B.Tech and M.Tech degrees in Biotechnology. In addition to the core courses, electives, industrial internship and project requirements of 4-year B.Tech in Biotechnology program, students in the dual degree program undertake additional specialized core and electives such as Research Methodology and Data Validation, Drug Delivery, Metagenomics, Regulatory Affairs- (Biological/GMO/Environmental policy regulations)

The research project in the 5th-year of dual degree builds on research training imparted through minor and major projects in the last 4-semesters of the B.Tech program.

5 Year Intgerated M. Tech (Electronics & Communication Engineering)

Besides the regular 4-year program, students learn the M. Tech. level courses such as Advanced Digital Signal Processing, Advanced Wireless Communication, VLSI Modeling and Simulation, FPGA Based System Design, Software Defined Radio, Speech Processing and Coding, System on Chip, Advanced Satellite and Fiber Optic Communication.

5 Year Integrated M. Tech (Computer Science & Engineering)

The program examines various areas of computer science engineering such as Algorithms, Programming languages, Software Engineering, Operating Systems, Computer Architecture, Multimedia Systems, Intelligent Systems, Data Base Management, Computer Networks, Security, Web technologies, and Embedded systems leading to both bachelors as well as Master’s degrees. The program lays emphasis on student projects and research.

Post Graduate Program

JIIT has been successfully running M. Tech Programs in Biotechnology,CSE,CSE with specialization in Information Security, CSE with specialization in Mobile Technology, Data Analytics, ECE with specialization in Communication Systems, ECE with specialization in Micro Electronics Systems & Embedded Technology, Information Technology & Entrepreneurship, Materials Science & Engineering and Applied and Computational Mathematics and an MBA program.

The objective of the M. Tech Programs is to prepare professionals with advanced knowledge of the respective field who can serve industry, R&D organizations and can take up an academic career, including further studies in a relevant Ph. D Program. The 2-year M. Tech Programs are spread over four semesters.

All M. Tech Programs are designed to cover core/compulsory as well as elective subjects to advance knowledge, ability and skills of the students in their chosen area. Students can take the desired electives from the set of subjects offered from time to time to enable them to cater for their interest and to specialize in a particular field. Dissertation is work spread over the last two semesters with fourth semester fully devoted to dissertation work only, this provides ample opportunity to the student to carry out intensive work on a chosen topic resulting in an innovative and research oriented output. Seminars are included in the Program to develop presentation skills in the students.

M. Tech (ECE with Specialization in Wireless Communication)

MTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) with specialization in Wireless Communication (WC) encourages students to develop an in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of advanced communication systems (4G, 5G and beyond). The contents of the course are designed meticulously keeping in mind the demands of wireless and mobile industry. The stream also includes advanced concepts of optical wireless communication, microwave and millimeter wave communication, 4G and 5G antenna technology etc. along with basic telecommunication courses. The course is well supported by laboratories like Advance Communication Laboratory, Research Laboratory. with many software and hardware tools.

M. Tech (ECE with Specialization in Machine Learning and Signal Processing)

The M.Tech program in Machine Learning and Signal Processing is aimed at providing a deeper understanding of the mathematical, theoretical, practical, and application aspects of machine learning and signal processing and create professionals who are industry ready. Machine Learning usually plays an important role in the transition from data storage to decision systems based on large database signals such as those obtained from sensor networks, internet services or communication systems. The program will focus upon machine learning methods and their applications to signal processing. The curriculum comprises of subjects like introduction to machine learning, advance signal processing, optimization techniques, statistical signal processing, image and video processing, advanced topics in machine learning, computer vision, biomedical signal processing, speech and audio processing, fuzzy logic, python, data analysis, and algorithms.

M. Tech (ECE with Specialization in Microelectronic Systems and Internet of Things)

M.Tech. in Microelectronics & Internet of Things (MIoT) is designed to provide electronics engineers with highly specialized knowledge and experience that they need to design, fabricate and test devices, circuits and systems at micro scale. The program offers a set of courses that allow students to gain expertise in areas that include back-end and front-end microelectronic designs such as processor and SoC design, chip design, etc. In addition, it introduces the basic IoT architectural overview, its design principles and needed capabilities and also concepts on real-world designs. The program curriculum is divided into theory, laboratory practice and projects. Along with the core courses, there are several elective courses, audit courses, project-based learning courses and open electives. The dissertation in the final year enables students to apply concepts and techniques learnt during the program. Keeping in view the market trends and demands, the core laboratories for VLSI design and simulation, Internet of Things, etc. have been established.

M. Tech (Computer Science & Engineering)

The program provides advanced level education and research exposure in various areas of computing – Algorithms, Distributed Systems, Software Engineering, Machine Learning, Databases, Computer Networks, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks, Information and Networks Security, etc. These advanced level courses and M. Tech dissertation lay the foundation for potential doctoral work in CSE.

M. Tech (Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Information Security )

Information security is a fast growing area and has been recognized as a national priority. This program aims to enhance the knowledge and core competencies in contemporary computer science and also provide a deep understanding of security related aspects. The curriculum includes a comprehensive set of core and elective courses to achieve both these purposes.

M. Tech (Biotechnology)

M.Tech in Biotechnology program is designed to offer diverse and extensive aspects of biotechnology and life sciences and has strong emphasis on research. It encompasses streams such as Bio-separation Technology, Metagenomics, Microbial Technology, Molecular Modelling and Drug Design, Bioprocess and Industrial Biotechnology, etc. Curriculum is enriched and helps the students follow interest compliant to his/her research aspirations and current industrial demands. Working along with a blend of Ph.D students and research fellows involved in intense research enhances the quality of research experience for graduate students.

M. Tech ( Information Technology & Entrepreneurship )

This is a joint program by department of CSE&IT and Jaypee Business School. It is designed for gradates with IT background who are interested in pursuing information technology centric entrepreneurship or taking leadership positions in innovative technology-based start ups and other organizations. The curriculum includes courses on information technology and entrepreneurship management. Second year of the program is devoted to industrial internship and IT entrepreneurship project to develop an investor-ready business plan. Through this program, the student will also network with successful ‘role model’ innovators, entrepreneurs, and enterprise development experts.

M.Tech. Data Analytics

M.Tech (Data Analytics) is an inter-disciplinary program offered by Department of CSE & IT and is designed to meet the huge manpower shortage in this area that has been well recognized as one of the fastest growing areas. All business and government organisations working in commerce, policy, insurance, finance, economics, engineering, infrastructure, energy, health care, education, security, sports, media, culture, etc. are increasing relying on computational tools and techniques of data analytics for taking informed decisions. This program has been designed to develop the ability to apply and develop computational techniques and systems to draw insights from big data in a variety of application domains. The curriculum exposes students with all aspects of data analytics including research design, data collection, preparation, analysis, integration, visualization, and interpretation. In addition to the CSE & IT department, the department of mathematics as well as business school/department of HSS will also contribute courses for this program. The core courses include statistical data analysis, financial econometrics, data warehousing and data mining, pattern recognition and machine learning, large scale graph analytics, empirical research and laboratories. Students will also be offered several electives on theoretical, systemic, algorithmic, and applied aspects of data analytics. This two year full time program is open for candidates with BTech (in any discipline) or Masters (in Computer Applications/Computer Science/IT/Maths/Statistics/ /Physics/ Electronics/Instrumentation/Economics/Commerce) or equivalent.

M. Tech. Computer Science & Engineering with specialization in Mobile Technology

Recent advancements in the field of wireless and mobile technologies have broken barriers regarding how we perceived communication. Ubiquitous computing has now evolved from the nascent stage of desktop computing.

Considering these a program on Master of Technology in Computer Science Engineering with specialization in Mobile Technology is being launched w.e.f. 2015-16 session. The program aims to provide sound theoretical as well practical knowledge in Wireless Communication & Networks, Mobile Architecture & Programming, Mobile Database Management System, Mobile Operating System &Web Development etc. The students will also have wide choice of electives to enhance their knowledge in subjects of their choice. This Master’s program provides career options in the emerging technology sector of Mobile Technology. This program will be open to candidates with B.Tech./B.E. in Computer Engineering/Information Technology/Electronics and Communication Engineering.
