Department of Mathematics
Mathematics has an important role to play in diverse domains of science, engineering and technology. Keeping this in view, the Department of Mathematics at JIIT has a vision to be a centre of excellence in teaching and research in basic and applied areas of Mathematics. The Department offers academic programmes and courses in contemporary and emerging areas of Mathematics and its applications for the development of analytical and problem-solving skills. This is done by offering a large number of core, elective and value-added courses for B. Tech., M. Tech., B.B.A., B.C. A. and the doctorate programmes. In addition the Department also runs B. Sc. (Computer Science), M. Sc. (Mathematics) and Ph. D. programmes. A new program B. Tech. (Mathematics and Computing) is also being started from session 2024-25.
From the inception, the Department has a great passion for research and development. In their pursuit for research, the faculty members have covered a vast area such as Fuzzy Topology, Hydrodynamic Stability, Fixed Point Theory, Computational Continuum Mechanics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Information & Coding Theory, Soft Computing, Numerical Methods, Exact Solutions & Symmetries for Nonlinear Systems, Image Processing, Queueing Theory, Approximation Theory and so on. The entire teaching faculty is actively engaged in research in their respective fields and a significant number of research papers are being published every year in the various journals of repute. There are two ongoing research projects funded by government agencies.
The department also has a mission to foster interaction with national and international institutions for enrichment, application and dissemination of knowledge in diverse areas of Mathematics. The field of mathematics however is constantly evolving to the ever changing need and challenges of its practitioners. Therefore, we also need to update ourselves continuously through various activities such as research work, workshops, faculty development programs, guest lectures and conferences. The Department successfully organises international conferences, Faculty Development Programmes (FDP), Teacher’s Enrichment Workshops (TEW) Short Term Training Programmes (STTP) and other workshops with partial funding from the reputed agencies like CSIR, DST and DRDO.

- Dr. Lakhveer Kaur was awarded with Top Most cited paper award 2020 by IOP (Institute of Physics), using citations recorded in Web of Science.
- Research scholar Rupali Srivastava received best paper presentation young scientist award at 6th International Conference of Vijnana Parishad of India held at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research Studies, Faridabad Haryana, India, December 09-11, 2022.
ANNUAL CONFERENCE
The Department of Mathematics organizes an annual international conference on “Recent Advances in Mathematical Sciences and its Applications (RAMSA)” with prime objectives of bringing together learned mathematicians, scientists, engineers, researchers, from academia and industries working in the diverse areas of mathematics.
This will present a common platform for exchange of ideas regarding the research findings and new advances in the diverse areas of mathematics, sciences and engineering and the solutions adopted thereto. It also gives an opportunity to enhance collaboration among researchers from India and abroad working on similar areas.
The scientific program including Keynote, plenary lectures and parallel contributed presentation will be able to enthuse the interest of the participants in the emerging areas involving vibrant implicational aspects of applied mathematics in relation to engineering and sciences.
All the past conferences were supported/partially funded by government agencies such as Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB) and Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO).
